How to Brand a Consulting Firm

When you’re building a business consulting firm, a name is one of the most important aspects. But is it really about the name, or the overall brand of your consulting firm? People don’t often go and buy a product or service because of the name itself, they buy the product or service based on the brand.

A brand is made of several aspects, your positioning, your expertise, your value proposition, and who you are as a person. It does not necessarily matter what you call your firm, but people will then recognise it as a part of your brand.

Naming your Consulting Firm

There are different ways to name a firm, it could either be named after yourself or could be named after a brand, it depends on what style of consulting firm you are wanting to build.

In an independent consulting firm, the brand is the owner of the firm.

This style of firm is very personal, and the size of your firm would only be 2-3 consultants. Your clients are reaching out because they see you as the expert, therefore you are the brand.

For an independent firm, you can use your name for your firm. First name, last name, or a combination of the two are commonly used, as well as a phrase like “group” or “associates” on the end.

In a branded consulting firm, the brand is the firm itself.

This style of a consulting firm isn’t as personal, and your firm size is going to have 10 + consultants. Your clients reach out to the company, as opposed to the firm owner themselves. If you’re wanting to build a firm, and make it larger than yourself, then sell the business, having a name connected to you isn’t the right option.

Naming your consulting firm a branded name does require some creativity, but it needs to tie into the vision and mission of your consulting business.

Once you’ve picked a name

Once you have decided on a name for your consulting firm, check if the domain name or social media handles are in use.

Creating a Logo for your Consulting Logo

When creating the logo for your consulting firm, it is important to reflect your brand and name within it. It is also crucial to consider the layout and size of your logo while keeping in mind that simple is best.

Instead of creating the whole logo, you could start with creating a logotype for your business. A logotype is the name of the business but designed in a customized way. Another factor to consider is using a designer for your logo.

Color Scheme

There are two elements to designing a logo, the color scheme and also the font of any words you may use. Here are some examples of different color schemes and they have been used to convey emotion.

Some businesses may choose to have more than one color in their logo. Businesses that choose to have a single color use black and white to help make it pop. You may pick to use two complementary colors, to help your logo stand out. Or you could create a monochromatic tone to your logo, by using two colors next to each other on the color wheel and then an accent color that adds a little bit of contrast.

Once a color scheme is picked, it is easier to create different versions of your own logo.

Typography

The other element to choose when designing your logo is the typography used. The correct use of a font within your logo can convey as much emotion as a color would. A modern-styled font conveys the feelings of intelligence, style, and exclusivity.
